Meet Emerson
Emerson, a hard-of-hearing Labrador, was the only pup left of his litter left unadopted. Has a pup with a hereditary audial problem, it was near impossible for Emerson to find a suitable home and seemed like all hope was lost until Nick Abbot stepped in and changed this puppy's life forever.

Emerson's story:
When Lindsay Powers shared Emerson's story, she revealed that the little pup experienced a seizure at birth and some seizures afterwards which lead him to break out with parvo. Parvo is an infection that attacks the eardrums of dogs.

In hopes of finding Emerson's furever home, Lindsay did her best to help people see Emerson as a regular pup who loves to do regular dog things!

Then Nick Abbot came into the picture!
It's not easy to raise a deaf puppy, but Nick Abbot, from Maine, had something profound in common with Emerson. Nick is deaf, just his new pup!

Nick’s application was processed quickly and the two were able to meet.

And it was an instant connection!
Nick's mother told Good Morning America, "They were meant for each other… it's amazing."

Two peas in a pod
Nick's mother continues, "Whenever they're together, Emerson is always finding a way to lean on Nick." Turns out, these two really needed each other. The family has now been attempting to teach Emerson sign language -- and it's working! Emerson has already learned to sit, stay and come. Nick's mother finished by saying, "If Nick reaches up and shakes his ear lobe, Emerson will bark."
